Youth Development

Youth Development Know - Lack of resources is one of the main reasons we have many youth facing difficulties in public schools. Lack of resources contributes to poor educational system, bad nutrition for those who rely on school for food and it also affect students behaviors. All this affects our youth and their education. Learn - Deficit approach is working to target specific issues such as teen pregnancy and drug abuse. This program consists in targeting high risk young people and finding ways to prevent the negative from occurring More- I would like to learn more language assistance for incoming youth from other countries.

Youth-Led efforts

As an educator I believe that youth are doing the right thing by stepping up and advocating for change.  With the help of adults I believe youth can make significant change in our community. What resonates the most in these chapter is the youth capability to make change. As we read in previous articles youth are not trusted by many because they have bad reputation which causes disbelief in their ability to contribute to change in our society. Allowing youth to have more opportunities to participate in our community is a great way to stop the stereotypes and also allow them to explore. By protecting and advocating they're proving that the negative stereotypes are not true. Youth For Change!

Identity

I identify myself as a strong and opened mind woman. Yes I am adventures which sometimes causes me to make risky decision. This is who I am not just in my personal life but also in my career. I was once told by a friend " you are who you are because of the decisions you make" this quote stuck to me because I have always been headstrong woman. Nevertheless this has contributed to many opportunities in youth spaces. In these spaces I'm known as black females, who is compassionate, dedicated and caring. My identity is affirmed through action. I believe that identity is not to be told but demonstrated through action specially in youth spaces. Listening to the TED talk by Jamila Lyiscott I was very interested in the way she explained silencing students of color. She made me question our educational system which allows racism to happen within our classroom. As a black female I have not experience this throughout my education journey but I'm curious to learn more about this...
